Who wants to be MAD (Making A Difference)?

The concept of 'Making a Difference' was mooted in 2001 and the first MAD movement was launched in that same year by Heartware Network. The movement aims to network individuals and organisations who share similar interest and passion to come together to provide meaningful community service.

The original MAD Movement and its online portal have evolved to become today's Youth Bank by Maybank, the one-stop online volunteering platform.

Youth Bank targets to engage 5,000 youth volunteers to contribute 150,000 hours in 3 years to help the community and its 90 partnering charities.

Several features, introduced recently, include the Youth Volunteer Mobilisation Call Centre (YVMCC) and the Gift Exchange Programme, an innovative initiative which converts volunteer hours in donations in cash or kind.

The YVMCC is being manned entirely by trained student volunteer coordinators who will personally contact volunteers to encourage them to make the different by converting their pledged hours into actual volunteer work at the charity of their choice. A 'first-of-its-kind' in Singapore, the centre has special interface such as Windows Live Alert and SMS Alert to facilitate prompt and efficient communications with the youth volunteers.

Supported by Maybank, powered by Microsoft, developed by ITE College Central and designed by Yolk.

Alan Phuang Zhi Zhong

Graduated from Republic Polytechnic, Administration Department IC, Chingay Parade Singapore 2009

Image I joined Chingay 2009 as I want to contribute my knowledge and expertise to this event.  I took on the role as the Admin IC and it was quite a challenge working with the team.  I learnt to be more patient and not over-react to situations.  I also learnt to listen to the views of others and look at the big picture.  These are skills that are relevant anywhere.

Heartware is an organization that groom youths to be responsible citizens.  They reach out to us and help us to see our strength and also give us the opportunity to contribute to the community.
